▲ Indian Folk Singer Prahlad Singh Tipanya

Prahlad Singh Tipanya is a locally, nationally, and internationally acclaimed folk singer from Lunyakhedi, a small village in Ujjain District, Madhya Pradesh.

He will be performing at the UNT Recital Hall on Tuesday, April 11th, 8:00PM. Admission is free.

He is renowned for his singing and interpretation of Kabir, the great fifteenth-century Hindi poet, along with other Hindi poets associated with nirgun devotion.

Tipanya-ji, a village schoolteacher with no musical tradition in his family, began singing and playing the tambura in the folk style of the Malwa region in 1978. Nearly four decades later he is a household name, his recordings heard in countless public and private places.

Free parking spaces will be available in Lot 26 (Highland Street, between Bain Hall and Music Practice South) for patrons attending performances at the College of Music on weekends and after 5:00pm on weekdays. Overflow spaces will be available in Lot 4 (Chestnut Street behind Chilton Hall).
