Korean-American community of Dallas is getting ready for the 19th Korean American National Sports Festival (KANSF).
KANSF is a bi-annual amateur sports event, where Korean-Americans from all over the United States gather in one city and complete in a variety of sports events. Think of it as a mini-Olympics for amateurs.
The host city for this year’s event is Dallas. Over 3,500 Korean-Americans are expected to gather in Dallas from Thursday, June 15th through Sunday, June 18th.
Participants will be competing in 19 different types of sports. City of Dallas, which placed 2nd in Washington D.C. two years ago, is aiming for the 1st place this time.
Korean American Sports Association, the organizer for this year’s event, will be hosting a fund raising event on Saturday, April 22nd at Sura Banquet Hall.
According to reports by Korean American news media, the total cost of the event is expected to exceed $300,000. Most of the funds are expected to be filled by donations from Korean government agencies, corporations, organizations, and individuals.
