H Mart donated $30,000 to 2019 Dallas Korean Festival.
H Mart invited the Korean Festival Committee officials to its Carrollton branch last Friday, October 11th and held a brief donation presentation.
Soo Goo Lee, who is in charge of the Carrollton branch operation, presented Suk Chan Yu, co-chair of the Korean Festival Committee, with $30,000 check.
“As a part of Korean American community of North Texas, we’ve always been an integral part of the Korean Festival. We are confident that this year’s Korean Festival will be another success and today’s donation can help achieve that goal.” Lee explained.
Suk Chan Yu expressed his appreciation in return.
“H Mart’s donation means a lot to us. I hope this will trigger the entire Korean American community to get involved with the Korean Festival and be more active in the fundraising effort.” Yu said.
This year will be 4th time the Korean American community is hosting the event.
According to the Committee, total budget for this year’s event is expected to exceed $400,000.
Carrollton City Council recently passed a resolution to sponsor $100,000 (or 25% of the budget) for the event.
Actual fund will be paid after the Festival is finished, which means that the Korean Festival Committee will have to raise the entire budget on its own.
According to the latest figure released Tuesday, $116,031 has been raised so far. This excludes the $10,000 from the City of Carrollton.
Carrollton Asian Town Center, where H Mart Carrollton branch is located, has donated $30,000 to the Korean Festival Committee.
Suk Chan Yu emphasized the importance of Korean American community’s involvement in the fundraising.
“This year’s festival will be the biggest ever in its 4-year history. That means the budget will be the biggest as well. We need the Korean Americans of North Texas to help with the fundraising. It’s not about how much you donate, but it’s your participation that really matters the most.” Yu said.
2019 Dallas Korean Festival is scheduled for Saturday, November 16th at the parking lot behind H Mart in Carrollton. There’s still a plenty of time for donation, volunteer registration, and booth rentals.
