Irving International Affairs & Sister Cities Committee held committee meeting on Wednesday, November 20th at the Irving-Las Colinas Chamber.
New committee chairman John Nicks was introduced. John Nicks is the Senior Vice President of Corporate Services for Envoy Air, a subsidiary of American Airlines Group.
Nicks will be taking over as the new chairman from Dr. Christa Slejko of North Lake College, who has been with the committee for a couple of years and will be part of the committee going forward.
Some of the items discussed at the meeting included minutes of May 21, 2019 and July 23, 2019 meetings, summary of fiscal year 2019-2019, work plan for fiscal year 2019-2020, and updates on recent events and activities.
Joe Chapa, Vice President of the committee, went into great details of Irving delegation’s visit to Busan, South Korea this past summer.
The city of Irving currently has sister city relationships with France, Mexico, Finland, Mongolia, U.K., and Italy. The committee is working to expand the list to include such countries as South Korea, Japan, and etc., according to Chapa.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Greater Dallas Korean American Chamber of Commerce (GDKACC) President H.K. Kim and Executive Advisor Charles Park.
GDKACC recently held its first ever Smart Business Expo, where such technologies as 5G, IoT (Internet of Things), digital kiosks and signage were introduced to help improve bottom lines and security of local small businesses. Irving-Las Colinas Chamber co-hosted the event.
A video presentation of the Smart Business Expo was given at the meeting. Preparation of the second annual Smart Business Expo is already under way, according to H.K. Kim of GDKACC.
H.K. Kim also emphasized GDKACC’s willingness to help Irving-Las Colinas Chamber to add a South Korean city to its list of sister cities.
