Plano is the top city in the nation for “staycations,” with nearby Grand Prairie coming in at a respectable No. 8 in a report from personal finance website WalletHub.
Staycation, a portmanteau of “stay” and “vacation,” describes just that: remaining at home for rest and relaxation rather than traveling. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and limits on tourism, they’ve become almost a requirement.
Fifteen indicators were used to rank more than 180 cities in WalletHub’s 2020 “Best & Worst Cities for Staycations.” Cities were evaluated on a number of criteria, including the number of parks and trails per capita, average area prices for beer and wine, average home square footage and summer weather.
Here is how Plano fared among several of those measures:
1st – Average home square footage
16th – Average price of pizza & burger
18th – Walking trails per capita
79th – Parks per capita
92nd – Hiking trails per capita
