Murphy and Allen are two of the top suburbs in the nation for growing families, according to a report from personal finance website GoBankingRates.com.
Murphy came in at No. 5 and Allen at No. 10. Denton suburbs Little Elm and Corinth were Nos. 19 and 48, respectively.
Texas led the nation with nine ranked cities. The Austin suburb Cedar Park ranked the highest at No. 3, followed by Leander (11), League City (20), Friendswood (33) and Cibolo (43).
The study gathered data from more than 1,200 suburbs near major cities, comparing key factors such as their violent and property crime rates, the percentage of households with children, the median list prices for homes and the basic cost of living.
“Suburbs with lower costs of living, inexpensive housing and low crime can offer a lot to families of all sizes — including more options to adjust your plans as needed when life starts throwing curveballs,” the website wrote.
Murphy has the second-highest proportion of family households with children in the study, at 67.1%, making it a popular place to raise kids, the study said.
